A Request from Enchanted Rose

My lovely wife, the Enchanted Rose (aka Nancy), is seriously contemplating making one of her fantastic quilts as an auction item for Lou Mongello's Dream Team Auction at Magic Meets.

She heard from talking to people at MouseFest that a good portion of the items up for auction are branded merchandise (aka swag).  She felt that something that was made from the heart would be well received and since she is a quilter, that is the first thing she thought of.

She has a bunch of Disney Theme fabric she has picked up over the years when shopping for other quilting projects.

My wife has asked that I throw up a poll to help guide the creative process.

The question at hand is this:   If you were to bid on a hand-made quilt (meaning not store bought), what theme would have the best chance of getting your attention and your bid?

You'll find the poll on the left-hand side of my blog right above the "Blogs of Interest".

She wants to make a quilt with the appeal to the greatest number of Disney fans.  Since this item will be ultimately auctioned off, you want to be able to raise money.  The best way to do this is to provide an item that the greatest number of people are interested in.

If you want to see some of the other quilts that she has done, you can check out pictures on our flickr collection

So let me know what you think.

[Ed Note:  Sorry Nerdy Boys, no Splash Mountain theme quilt this year]

Anytime you are giving something of yourself, the end result is always cherished, at least in my opinion, with more emotion. This is such a wonderful thing to see, and yet another glimpse into the heart of the Disney Community.

I raise my glass to you, Enchanted Rose!

This is such a great idea. I helped out at the auction last year and a quilt would make a GREAT addition to the cause.

I checked out your other quilts and they are gorgeous.

As for theme, it pains me to agree with George. You also might check with Pat Whitson (auction coordinator). She has a handle on which themes got the best response last year.

I have to agree with Ryan and George. Anything you would do for the auction would be great. But I voted for Mickey.

Ray and Nancy,
First, thank you so much for thinking of such a lovely donation to the Dream Team auction! I looked at the photos of Nancy's quilts and they are beautiful! Something like that would definitely be a huge hit.

I'd like to just correct what you heard at Mousefest regarding the type of items at the auction. Every item is Disney related, and range from themed gift baskets to collectibles to art work to hand-crafted items, with pins, toys and games, and travel-related goodies there too. Last year's selections included Walt Disney Classic Collection figurines, hand made scrapbooks and cards, framed pin collections, a lithograph from The Happiest Celebration on Earth, an original Pinocchio movie theater poster, and much more. On top of that, we auctioned off a personal Hidden Mickey Tour given by Steve Barrett, a pair of tickets to the Illuminations Dessert Party held during MouseFest by Deb Wills & Mouse Fan Travel, two sets of hand-crafted Mickey windchimes, and an original 16 x 20 framed photo by Tim Devine. And other than one basket of Lou Mongello's trivia books and shirt (playfully called the "Shameless Plug" basket), no other 'swag' to be found. I think the person who gave you the information may have confused the auction items with the door prizes that were given away.

This year is already shaping up to be more exciting than the last! Thank you for being a part of it.

I guess I will have to bid on your quilt. It seems this may be the only way I will ever get one!
